About the Author
Masoom Parmar dances with questions and curates with contradictions. Born to a Zoroastrian mother and Muslim father in Gujarat (yes, prepare the identity bingo!), he trained in Bharatanatyam and Kathak (which he now refers to as Indic temple and court dances; pretentious much?) but now spends most of his time politely side-eyeing the gatekeepers of “classical” dance.
When he’s not taking Thehraav (stillness) very seriously, he’s somewhere in Bangalore running Alif Arts Consultancy, teaching arts management with the enthusiasm of a TED Talker on espresso, or curating and/or producing festivals . He’s also a sucker for the occasional existential crisis.
Off Stage, On Script is where he reflects, rants, theorizes, and occasionally throws some well-earned shade at the glittering but often exclusionary stages of Indian dance.
Here, nothing (and maybe everything) is sacred; everything is open to reimagination. Do stick around. Or don’t. He’ll thehraav anyway.
